Doris J. Paterson

Doris was born July 9, 1924 in Portsmouth, England. Even at a young age, Doris was already delving into the depths of art.
She married Anthony Paterson and immigrated to Canada as a war bride, and between 1948 and 1967, she gave birth to 10 children.

While raising her family, Doris found solace in art, or what she called her “life raft.” Shortly after her marriage ended, Doris moved to Mission in 1988 and within a short time became a standout in the artistic community.

Doris belonged to the Federation of Canadian Artists, was named ‘Woman of the Year’ in Mission in 2001, a Pathfinder in Mission in 2005, and she was a lifetime member of the Mission Arts Council.

Adjoining The Rock Family Gallery is the Doris J. Paterson Atelier secondary Gallery, aptly named for one of Mission's best-known artists and writers.

The Doris J. Paterson Atelier Gallery is a small gallery space just off our main gallery where we are able to showcase some of our finest local artists for a duration of two months at a time. The artwork on display in the Doris J. Paterson Atelier Gallery is always available for immediate purchase.

The Doris J. Paterson Atrium Gallery is also a contemplative space where one might make themselves a cup of coffee or tea and sit quietly amongst the artwork, or a space to gather and socialize with friends for an afternoon.
