Message from the MISSION ARTS COUNCIL……….
Hello and Happy New Year,
As many of you know, we did not receive our GAMING FUNDS for 2009/10 and we can not count on such Government funding any time in the near future. Although the loss has been somewhat of a financial strain on the Arts Council, and we have had to re-evaluate our operations, we are still here in the house and are making some slight changes to staffing and other activities at the facility.
The District of Mission has been very supportive and granted a Permissive Tax Exemption to the landowner for as long as the Arts Council is in the building and the Rock family (our landlords) have been extremely supportive. We can not thank them enough for their generosity.
FACILITY UPDATE:
Nancy Arcand remains as the Executive Director and will be at the facility Monday to Friday 9 to 2 pm. The Administrative Assistant position will not be filled at the present time.
The Gallery and Tea Room will be open Tuesday to Saturday 1 to 4 pm but the gift shop area will be closed. We are actively seeking an artist who may want to use this space as a personal gallery or work space. Rent will be minimal. The “gift shop” will be downsized to five upright glass display cases through the foyer, gallery and tea room, and have a rotation of artists displaying and selling their works.
Knowing that our grants may not be forthcoming, we are working very hard to be self sufficient and be proactive in our fundraising efforts.
We will actively start marketing the facility for other uses such as a meeting space, Home school sessions, Musical single and duo nights, small receptions and weddings etc. CAMP MAC Summer Art Classes, Blooming Marvelous Plant and Garden Art Sale, Silent Art Auction, An evening of Art (silent auction and performances) etc
THERE ARE MANY WAYS YOU CAN HELP…
1. We are looking for 2D and 3D art pieces for our October Silent Auction. Last year our generous members and local artists donated work and we raised $1900. All donated art would receive a tax receipt for the retail price of their work.
2. Items for our Evening Silent Auction April. Items can be an assortment of things from a Massage to a nights stay in Vancouver…again a tax receipt will be given for the retail price of your donation.
3. Raffle baskets: They have worked very well and this year we plan on one at every event. Chose which one you would like to donate a small item for and drop off at the art center…..
4.Valentines basket….with Chocolate, wine, wine glasses, candles, gift certificate for a dozen roses, Purdy Chocolates, etc…..NOW if possible
5. Blooming marvelous…..APRIL plant and garden supplies from gloves, to seeds, wind socks, gardening magazine subscription, landscape design books, garden art, wind chimes etc.
etc.DROP OFF FEBRUARY
6. Children’s Festival…..BOY AND GIRLBASKETS…..Jars of Jelly Beans, toy trucks, dolls, balls, bubbles, Lego, Barbie etc,
ANY TIME BEFORE THE END OF MAY……
7.
SUMMER SPA...candles, aroma therapy, nice towels, bath salts, bath balms, foot lotions, relaxing CD’s, Massage from local Spa, tranquility fountains etc….DROP OFF ANYTIME BEFORE JULY
YOUR TIME WOULD BE WONDERFUL TOO…
Even though there is one staff person, we operate solely on a volunteer basis and although the Gift Shop is closed we still need two people in the facility for safety and companionship.
Do you have a few hours a month that you could come in and help out? A 4 hour shift once a month would be so helpful. We also need folks to sit on committees and help set up events like the Christmas Craft Market, Children’s Festival…..so if you feel you could do this we would so greatly appreciate it.
If you have any other ideas or comments, please feel free to contact Nancy Arcand via e-mail or call her at 604-826-0029…….
THANK YOU!!
