Kjaer Pederson
Welcome to Kjaer Pedersen's online Gift Shop.

Kjaer Neletia Pedersen proves to be a continuing work of art in progress.  She was born in Owen Sound, Ontario to Kjaer, a Danish tailor and to Neletia, a strong beautiful black woman.  Kjaer grew up enjoying all of the wonders of her life...love, dancing, art, academics.  She married at an early age but luckily quickly dumped that chump.
This young women then completed her B. A. at the University of Guelph, and then her B. Ed. at Western University.  She moved to British Columbia twice, once to live with her Aunt and Uncle and complete her high school education, while doing some modelling and just having fun.  This is where she met her present husband, who happened to have a teenage crush on her at the time... which was all but completely ignored by Kjaer. Jeff, however, continued to pursue Kjaer from their 3000 mile distance after her first marriage broke up.  When she returned to BC and began to teach, she quickly withdrew her superannuation and went on her own to backpack through Europe. It was when Kjaer returned  that this young couple decided that they would be married.  Jeffery and Kjaer are living happily ever after in a log house on the mountainside of a rain forest in Mission, BC along with the best twin sons that have every existed.  Kjaer’s heart sings. back to top | to gift shop items

Teaching all of her life, Kjaer has just retired after 30 wonderful years in the classroom.  She has taught from Grade One to Adults, almost every subject area in all Grades, but, for the past number of years has taught secondary Art exclusively and joyfully...every year just got better and better.  Some of the recent greatest accomplishments was to assist her students in successfully earning University Credit while still attending high school, and...also working with young people on many and varied huge art murals hanging in both the school and the community.  However, early retirement called her, and was just too enticing a thought as Kjaer has never had the opportunity to enjoy uninterrupted time to create her own art. She decided to celebrate her ‘rejuvenation’, as she likes to refer to her retirement, and flew off to Paris.  Kjaer raised a glass, in a lovely outdoor Parisian Cafe on the Champs-Élysées, as school was ending for the day in France and was just opening in BC  Memorable, and simply priceless moments in life. back to top | to gift shop items

Working part time in her pottery studio, located on her own acreage, while still teaching, has allowed Kjaer the creative outlet that she needed.  She has successfully sold in many art galleries and her works are in private collections worldwide.  Kjaer is drawn to the human face and began her serious ceramic work when she began to make clay masks, but, as everything in her life, she quickly became interested in a multitude of other related work.... playing with wall hangings, mirrors, along with various and gorgeous tableware pieces.  Life is good.  Kjaer shares her pleasure of having ‘eye candy’ in everyday life... drawing ourselves back to the present moment in appreciating the finer details... a simple bowl of soup can become a special occasion for one in a piece of art by Kjaer.
Kjaer Neletia Pedersen has an insatiable sense of enjoying artistic experimentation and has just recently incorporated her crazy, and admittedly somewhat obsessive passion for clothing... in that she is always wanting and searching for unique, comfortable, artistic clothing world wide... into her honest shock of realizing that she ‘seams’ to be able to sew.   Who knew?  Priding herself all of these long years in being the only Grade 7 girl (because, as we all know,  back then it was totally unheard of for any boy to take sewing and every girl had no option but to be trained in basic household skills) to fail Home Ec in her home town.  Kjaer laughingly realizes that her own children didn’t even know that she could sew on a button.  However, in her youth, she vividly remembers sitting at her parent’s knee as they sewed... mesmerized, awed, inspired... learning and not realizing.

Totally excited about her new developing line, Kjaer began with the idea of resurrecting recycled clothing and altering it with flair.  However, as this sewing mania continued for the next few weeks, she found her true passion.  Kjaer takes buttery soft, silken cashmere like material... which is beautiful, luxurious ecologically friendy, fully sustainable BREATHABLE bamboo and then alters it, adding and subtracting colour and giving the material life and flair.  Washing and drying the material a few times between processes before finally sewing up casual, comfortable shawls, wraps, vests, shirts, hair bands, arm warmers, night gowns... etc... all with that artistic pizzazz that makes each piece not only a work of art, but everyone is most certainly and scrumptiously one of a kind.
Kjaer, a definite work of art in progress, likes to quote Oscar Wilde, “One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art”, and Kjaer proves with her artistic passion that she can be both.  Kjaer is sure that your chosen piece will become a fast favourite.  Enjoy!!! back to top
