Wes Giesbrecht Some of you may have seen my wood mosaic wall hangings in the BC Wood Co-op on Granville Island or various other galleries in Canada and the US. I've been making them for many years and they've done extremely well. There are now many hundreds of them in collections all over the world. My formal training in wood joinery was at the University of the Fraser Valley and at BCIT. More recently I started creating these abstract paintings as a way of exploring the world of colour and expressing my vision in a less rigid form. I've shown in several multi artist and solo shows in Alberta and BC. In a perfect world, the art would speak for itself, but a part of me knows that it doesn't always work that way. So what can I say that won't sound pretentious? Most of my paintings look like the proverbial 'accident in the paint shop'. Why? Because that's the intent. The less contrived my paintings appear to be, the better. Since I choose and mix the colours, both off and on the surface, place the paint where I want it to be or encourage it to go where I want it to go, the process is obviously, not random but my hope is always, that it's voice will speak to the viewer of randomness.
