"25 Years of the Art of Papermaking"

Joan Marr

An exhibition that covers 25 years of papermaking on all levels; hand cast unusual papers in albums, hand cast sculptures, hand cast masks and hand cast paintings, large and small.

"I am involved in the conservation and in the ecology. For this reason, I am making my own paper. Paper is made from organic fibres. Paper today is made primarily from wood pulp from our trees. Trees are not a readily renewable resouce. The by-products produced from the process of making paper from wood pulp are chemical effluents. These by-products are producing dioxins and chlorides, which are poisoning our environment.

It makes sense to recycle existing reusable paper and make paper from other fibres, such as rice, cotton, flax and reeds. I have experimented with other fibres to make my papers. I feel I have achieved an expanded paper product and art form, of different textures and of organic pigments. This art form is just beginning and is an ongoing process of experimentation."
