A vibrant community invested in creative arts

"Baker's View "

I see my work as illustrations of the people and places that catch my attention as I go about living my life. I am attracted to great light, saturated colours, and people who have character, or life written on their faces. I tend to work almost exclusively in watercolour, because I love the translucency and colour that the medium allows.

I love doing portraits of people wiht original, engaging faces. I also love capturing people who are just going about living their lives. Often it is the moments that are as fleeting as memories that appeal to me; people sitting in a coffee shop, having brunch, a woodworkers setting up his displays in the light coming through the shop window. Sometimes, I see scenes that I think are ironic, like two people sitting across from one another, each absorbed in their phones, while real life passes by throught the windows beside them. Somtimes the world gives me scenes in perfect primary colours, and the image is about the colours and patterns that I want to capture, although, in order for a scene to feel like it's mine, people must be present.

These are the things that I view, that I wish to hold onto, my memories of everyday life.
